She helped me use my KulturLegi card, which was very important to me. The school has modern equipment, excellent materials, and some teachers are better than others—which is normal at any school. The exam was very well organized from start to finish. The staff were friendly and helpful, everything ran on time, and there was convenient parking nearby, which made the whole visit stress-free. Yes. That’s exactly what a conversation course is for. Many German learners understand grammar and vocabulary but have trouble responding spontaneously or carrying on longer conversations. In the conversation course, you’ll practice speaking freely, engaging in discussions, handling everyday situations, and expressing your own opinions. This will help you gain more confidence and learn to use your existing German skills more actively.

Do I need to be able to speak German well to take a conversation class?

No. The German conversation course at ILS Zürich is designed for levels A1 through C1. Participants are divided into two groups: A1, A2, and B1; and B2 and C1. This allows you to practice with people whose language skills match your own level.

Does a conversation course help you speak German more fluently?

A conversation course can be especially helpful if you’re already learning German but don’t get to speak it often enough in everyday life. Through regular conversation, you’ll practice responding more quickly in German, forming sentences more spontaneously, and expanding your active vocabulary. The goal isn’t to have every conversation without making any mistakes, but to communicate with increasing confidence and naturalness.

What exactly happens in a German conversation class?

The focus is on active speaking. Typical topics include conversations about everyday subjects, discussions, expressing and justifying opinions, and practical communication situations. Classes are interactive and take place in groups of no more than 10 people.

Can a conversation course improve my pronunciation and vocabulary?

Yes. If you speak regularly, you’ll notice more quickly which words you’re missing and which phrases sound more natural in conversation. At the same time, you’ll hear different ways of expressing yourself and can work on your pronunciation. It’s especially helpful that new vocabulary is used directly in conversations, making it easier to remember.

Is the conversation course still worthwhile if I'm already taking a regular German course?

Yes. A conversation course can be a great complement to a regular German course because it places greater emphasis on speaking freely. The German conversation course is free for ILS students who are already enrolled. This allows you to gain more practical speaking experience in addition to your regular classes.

When does the German conversation course take place in Zurich, and how long does it last?

The conversation course takes place on Fridays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the ILS Zürich . Each course block lasts 6 weeks. The course costs CHF 150 for external participants, while ILS students who are already enrolled can attend for free.
