The ILS-Zürich is an accredited examination institution for fide-Test and conducts the fide-Test at CEFR levels A1 to B1. With the fide-Test you can prove your oral and written language skills in German, French and Italian. fide-Test A1, A2, B1.

Description fide-Test:

The fide-Test was initiated by the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) and is recognized throughout Switzerland. You can use it with the authorities to extend your residence permit, at Registration for further training or when looking for a job in your application documents.

At the fide-Test oral and written language skills are measured separately. The fide-Test is made up of a "speaking and understanding" part and a "reading and writing" part. You can either complete both parts (speaking / understanding and reading / writing) or just one part (speaking / understanding or reading / writing).

The fide-Test is not an ordinary exam with grades. You do not receive a "pass" or "fail" as a result, but rather the CEFR level (A1, A2 or B1) achieved in the various skills, depending on the skills you have demonstrated and your tested language skills (German, French or Italian).

Our language school ILS-Zürich is accredited by the fide office to take the fide-Test exam and conducts weekly fide tests as well as monthly preparation courses for fide-Test . fide-Test Zurich.

Registration fide-Test in Zurich:

The number of places on the fide tests at our language school ILS-Zürich is limited. Please register early using the registration form or directly with us on site.
The respective registration deadline can be found in the table "fide-Test dates & registration deadlines".

Please note that the examination fees must be paid in full by the day of the examination at the latest. Otherwise the participant will be excluded from the examination.

Unsubscribe fide-Test:

Cancellations up to 20 days before the examination date will only incur a processing fee of CHF 30. Cancellations less than 20 days before the start of the examination must be paid in full.

fide-Test Results:

Graduates receive the results after approx. 4 weeks by post directly from the fide office in 3008 Bern.

The processing time for tests taking place between December 9, 2025 and January 25, 2026 may take slightly longer. Accordingly, the issuing of language passports may take up to 6 weeks instead of the usual 4 weeks after the test date.

Preparation courses for fide-Test:

Prepare for the fide-Test at ILS-Zürich : Visit a preparation course for fide-Test in private or group lessons at ILS-Zürich.

fide-Test Duration:

Speak and understand: Approx. 40 min.
Reading and writing: Approx. 65 min.

The fide-Test takes place twice a week: On Tuesday and Thursday. Participants must receive the invitation at least 10 days in advance.

Complete the fide-Test successfully at ILS-Zürich!

Our language tutors are carefully selected by going through a long process and having to pass special exams. We can therefore say with confidence that our tutors are very familiar with the subject matter and the current syllabus, so that our courses in preparation for the fide-Test and our learning materials are adapted to the current fide tests at all times.

What exactly is the fide-Test?

The fide-Test was developed on behalf of the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM). With the fide-Test you can have your German language skills certified. The test tasks are related to the German levels A1 - B1 and refer to different everyday situations such as at work, a doctor's visit, shopping or at the municipality. The fide-Test is divided into two parts; an oral part (speaking and understanding) and a written part (reading and writing).

The fide-Test is open to anyone 16 years of age or older.

People with a disability can also participate in fide-Test . Special rules apply to them, which are agreed upon together with the examination institution and the fide office.

You can contact one of our ILS International Langue Schools directly or register via the registration form Register. At Registration for fide-Test you can choose between the whole exam (oral and written) or just one of the parts (oral or written).

IMPORTANT: The number of places is limited. Please register early!

The whole test (oral and written) costs CHF 250.

Only the oral part (speaking and understanding) costs CHF 170.-.

Only the written part (reading and writing) costs CHF 120.

The oral part lasts 40 minutes, the written part 60 minutes.

The fide-Test takes place twice a week: On Monday and Tuesday afternoons. The exact test times are usually announced to the participants 1-2 weeks before the test date.

You will receive your fide-Test result directly by post approx. 4 weeks after taking the fide-Test test. Unfortunately, no information regarding the test results can be given over the phone.

We at ILS Zürich will prepare you optimally for fide-Test

At our ILS Language Center Zurich, we prepare you for the fide-Test exam with determination and success. In addition to the group preparation courses for the fide-Test (in groups of two or three), you are also welcome to book effective individual lessons in our exam preparation course for the fide-Test , which you can take as a private course at our ILS Language Center Zurich. With the private course for the fide-Test , you benefit from class time, especially when it comes to masses. Your language teacher will focus solely on you and you can set your own individual priorities in the various subject areas.
